Overheating & Full Service Repair Costs
Prices vary by console model and the extent of the damage. Here are typical ranges for each console family.
R799 – R1 395
incl. VAT | 6-month warranty
PS5 uses LIQUID METAL (not thermal paste) from the factory — an indium-based alloy with ~73 W/mK conductivity. We safely remove the old liquid metal and reapply fresh compound with proper containment gaskets. PS5 Slim also uses liquid metal.
Common causes:
- Dust accumulation blocking airflow
- Liquid metal degradation or migration
- Fan bearing wear causing noise
- Vertical positioning causing thermal issues
R699 – R1 225
incl. VAT | 6-month warranty
PS4 uses THERMAL PASTE (not liquid metal). We strip down the console completely, wash all covers, clean the heatsink, and apply our thoroughly tested thermal paste.
Common causes:
- Years of dust buildup inside the console
- Dried-out thermal paste (factory paste degrades)
- Fan bearing failure causing noise or poor airflow
- Heatsink clogged with dust and pet hair
R699 – R1 145
incl. VAT | 6-month warranty
Xbox One consoles accumulate significant dust due to their large chassis design. We fully strip down the console, clean all components, replace the thermal paste on the APU, and test under load to ensure proper cooling.
Common causes:
- Dust accumulation in the large chassis
- Thermal paste degradation
- Fan failure or bearing noise
- Blocked ventilation from placement
R849 – R1 390
incl. VAT | 6-month warranty
Xbox Series consoles pack powerful hardware into compact designs, making proper thermal management essential. We strip the console down, clean all dust from the heatsink and fan assembly, replace the thermal paste, and thoroughly test temperatures under load.
Common causes:
- Dust buildup in the compact chassis
- Thermal paste degradation
- Fan issues causing loud operation
- Poor ventilation from cabinet placement

What Does Overheating & Full Service Repair Involve?
A full service is the most thorough maintenance your console can receive. We completely strip down the console to its bare motherboard, wash all plastic covers and panels, blow out every trace of dust from the heatsink and fan assembly, and replace the thermal compound between the APU and heatsink. For PS5 consoles, this means carefully removing the factory liquid metal and reapplying fresh compound with proper containment gaskets. For PS4 and Xbox consoles, we remove the old dried-out thermal paste and apply our thoroughly tested replacement paste — free of metal shavings and safe for the APU surface.
The difference between PS5 and all other consoles is important to understand. Sony chose liquid metal for the PS5 because it conducts heat far more efficiently (around 73 W/mK) than standard thermal paste (typically 8-12 W/mK). However, liquid metal is electrically conductive and requires careful handling to prevent short circuits. This is why PS5 thermal servicing should only be done by a specialist who understands the containment system. PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles all use standard thermal paste, which dries out over time and needs periodic replacement.
We strongly recommend an annual full service for every gaming console, especially if you game regularly. Dust accumulation and thermal compound degradation are gradual — by the time your console sounds loud or shuts down from overheating, the internal temperatures have been elevated for months. Regular servicing prevents this from escalating into costly motherboard-level damage such as cracked solder joints or APU failure. Prevention is always cheaper than repair.
